Muguni stone is essentially black marble found in Odisha that is a tedious material to work with. Prior to the carving process, the raw stone is sculpted and shaped using a hammer and a chisel to bring out the basic form of the desired product on which the patterns would be carved. Once the outline is marked, he then draws the desired design using a pointed chisel and carves through these pre-drawn patterns using various grades of flat chisels and a hammer. After which, it is sent for further polishing and beautification. Carving on stone allows superior craftsmanship to shine through!
